Cooper Grace Ward’s graduate program – Neil Baker, Director of People and Culture

Cooper Grace Ward’s graduate program is
quite unique in the marketplace. We have it structured in such a way that it
fulfills both a technical strategic need for the business, as well as a talent
pipeline need for the business. And it’s structured over a two-year period where
we hire law students who have two years to go in their degree, they come on board
for the first year and the technical component of it in terms of our strategy
is doing technical research for the firm, and they do that for 12 months. At the
end of that 12 months then they rotate into our work teams where they’ll gain
experience in our various work teams. Ideally some time in litigation and
some time in transactional work. Following successful performance in those areas
they’ll move on to become a graduate and then ultimately a lawyer. So over a
two-year period they’re gaining appropriate skills to become a qualified
lawyer with with the firm.
